Madison Academy honors Veterans with Veteran’s Day Tribute

The program began with the Tolling of the Bell by Ethan Callahan, Sophomore.  Mrs. Kristine Fuentes, MA Principal welcomed our guests that included the entire Madison Campus Elementary school members along with the Cumberland View Towers residents.  The Hendersonville High School MCJROTC Color Guard presented the colors.  The national anthem was sung by the Madisonians after which Sgt. Bill Jones, US Army and Ashlyn, Kaylyn and Eden Levoy led in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Major Arlan Monroe and his son Sean, a Freshman, gave a short history of Veteran’s Day.  Pax Fordam, also a Freshman, read a poem entitled “For the Fallen” by R. L. Binyon.  The handbell choir, Bellissimo!, played the patriotic song My Country, ‘Tis of Thee.  SRA Kurtis Kenerson, US Air Force and Madison Academy alumni gave a short inspirational speech.  Personal thank you’s were given by Preston Rufo and Andre Crayton.  In addition Jeff Fisher, VA Chaplain, added his thank you.  The second graders from MCE gave gifts to each veteran at the program.  The band and choir gave a tribute to the Armed Services and Pastor Ken Wetmore from Madison Campus Church closed the assembly with prayer.

Aaron Academy wins games at Madison

Last night at the Madison Campus Elementary school gym the Royals of Aaron Academy, both the girls and the boys, won their basketball games.  In the girls game, the Royals went wire to wire finishing the evening with 43 points.  The Lady Knights scored 32 points and began the regular season 0-1.

In the boys game, the Knights built an early lead and held on to it during the first half.  The Royals made some halftime adjustments and took the lead in the 3rd quarter.  The score was close through the end of the game.  In the last minute, the Royals pulled away making free throws and baskets to finish 51-41.  The Knights lose their opening game but hope to bounce back and start a winning streak.

The next game is Tuesday, November 15th at Madison Academy gym.  The girl’s varsity game starts at 7:30 pm, boys varsity at 6:00 pm, boys Freshmen team at 5:00 pm, the girls Freshmen team TBA.  Their opponent is Pleasant View Christian.  Last year both the girls and boys team won their home games against PVC.

Chaplain announces CAN HUNGER week

Next week is our annual “Can Hunger Week”.  This is a class competition with the winning class getting prizes at the end of the week.  The 403 Center distributes lots of food during the holidays and can use all the donations they can get.  So start looking through your cupboards at home, pick up an extra couple of cans of green beans at Aldi or collect some from neighbors.  Bring in the cans or non perishable goods starting next Monday and ending on Friday.  May the best class win!

Basketball pre-season starts with Jamboree

Mrs. Fuentes announced today in chapel that the boys team finished in 3rd place overall and the girls team finished 2nd.  The Jamboree at Collegedale Academy hosts several teams over a weekend and teams play in the Collegedale Academy gym.  Two games are played Saturday night and another two games are played on Sunday morning. This year the Jamboree included Collegedale varsity and jv teams, Madison Academy varsity and Georgia Cumberland Academy varsity.

The girls team won three games and played in the championship however they lost to Collegedale girls varsity.  The boys played won each time they played the Collegedale jv team but fell to the varsity teams.

The regular season games begin at MCE at 6:00pm and 7:30pm with the girls and boys varsity teams respectively.  They will compete with Aaron Academy.  Last year the teams met once here on campus.  The girls won their game and the guys lost theirs.
