What is Literature Evangelism?

Literature Evangelism is a highly effective way of reaching souls for Christ! Through Christ-focused books, the Word of God is shared by students as they go door-to-door. These books will nurture and challenge them physically, mentally and spiritually. Youth Summit is a spiritual experience, praying between every door and with those in great need. Meeting people at doors gives students incredible opportunities to touch lives.

You can join if you:

– Love Jesus

– Are 14 years or older

– Work hard

–Willing to commit to working at least semester

–Want to learn leadership and communication skills

What is a typical workday like?

Youth Summit students work Sunday-Thursday during the school year. After worship and training, students pray together before sharing Jesus with the local communities. They hit the streets, offering people books and free community services, including Bible studies. Teams go out together with highly-trained and experienced leaders.

Why work with Youth Summit?

  1. Being involved in front-line ministry will stretch and expand your Christian experience. You can look forward to incredible experiences with God and grow in your leadership and people skills.
  2. You will earn a great scholarship, thus, making school easier to pay for. The average student earns around $2,000-$2,500 during the school year.
  3. You will develop people skills, as well as leadership skills that you can use with your local youth group.
  4. Safety! Two-way radios, as well as trained leaders (who work with students constantly), have ensured our students with safety for over twenty years. Learn more about our Safety Standards here.
  5. Bible workers and church members follow up evangelistic interests, so those spiritual seekers can find what they are looking for.

Student Testimony: Leo M.

(Junior at MA)

One of our Student Literature Evangelists

Usually, because of time of day (working 3-5:00 p.m.) I would canvass businesses. One day I was in a strip mall in Hendersonville where there was a nail salon, hair salon, spa and a medical center. Everyone was fairly busy and waved me off, so when I entered the last business, the medical center, I was ready to be done for the day.

Instantly, the nurse at the front desk gave me a smile and welcomed me. No one else was there so it gave me an opportunity to share with her what I was doing. As I told her that I was selling Christian books to help pay for my Christian education she became quiet. I picked up on her disinterest and just dropped down to our Happiness Digest book that we leave with people for any small donation.

For some reason, as I was heading my way out I made a silly excuse to stay and chat. I can’t even remember what I said, but it restarted our conversation. I asked her how she got in the medical profession and about her life. I then brought the conversation back to our little book, Happiness Digest.

After that, she simply stated, “I’m not really interested in church. People in the south tend to push church so much and when you share with them that you are an ‘A-word’…”

I stopped her instantly, “an ‘a-word’!?!” I questioned.

“An atheist.” She said matter of factly. “When people find that out, they tend to shut down and reject you.”

I never met an atheist and I didn’t know what to say so I simply said, “that’s okay that you’re an atheist.”

She replied, “That’s kinda weird.”

I shared with her that I grew up in a church and family that when someone is different than you that you welcome them even more. And how I could see where she was coming from when so many people have pushed her away. Then I shared, “Jesus has a place for you and that you shouldn’t feel that church is something scary, it should be something you get excited for. I then went back to the Happiness Digest and shared how it was originally titled Steps to Christ and how it helps you find freedom from worry, guilt, and fear.”

As I finished the woman broke down crying and I asked if I could pray for her.

She nodded yes and I prayed that, she would find a church she would feel comfortable with, she could find a group of people she could grow with and that she could know God. As I left I gifted her the Happiness Digest.

That interaction gave me the boost I needed for the day to keep going. I ended the day by earning $40, enough for school and enough to cover the Happiness digest

A Parent Perspective

Chris selling books at a local church

I’ve seen how much Christopher has grown in his maturity spiritually and he has grown in confidence. I’m always amazed by the stories he shares with me, so many of them I know they are miracles!

He was dropped off at a neighborhood with his partner and the area looked promising! Lots of families around. But as he started knocking on doors he found that no one was home at any of them and he became discouraged. On his 10th house, a Japanese family answered the door and bought 10 books!!! Nine houses nothing, no one was there, then a family wanting everything he had! It wasn’t simply about selling books, It was about giving people spiritual encouragement and hope. It’s a great opportunity for young people to learn how to trust in God. I hope many young people choose this beautiful work.
